Right now, LA wildfire survivors are facing extreme time constraints after an already extremely challenging recovery process.

Please take a look at the follow and let us know if any of these would be helpful?

Would you benefit if the current SBA Disaster Loan Maximum of $500k was increased to $1 million?

We believe there is a realistic chance this could be done specifically for the LA Wildfires given the dramatically higher costs to rebuild in California. There is a process to request that this be done on a disaster by disaster basis.

Are you considering hiring an attorney to represent you with your insurance company?

Routinely, SBA disaster loans are not offered to pay an attorney or other professional that is not directly related to the repair or replacement of your real property.

However, there is a process (with a 24 month deadline from the point you receive approval on your disaster loan) where you can request an increase to your loan to bridge the gap between the actual insurance money you receive and the true costs for rebuilding.

Real quick: Should you retain counsel, then you and your attorney can inform SBA and request additional funding.

Quick math:

Cost to rebuild $1 million.

Net insurance funds to you: $700,000

Potential disaster loan from SBA: $300,000.

Obtain a “second opinion” on your actual your disaster losses as determined through the SBA disaster loan verification process?

The Loss Verifiers who work at the SBA Disaster Verification Center are tasked with determining your disaster losses.

That information and amount is then provided to the SBA loan officer assigned to you and is the primary number used to determine the disaster loan that you may be offered.
