A couple of years ago we had another trainer moved into a full time position. Over the last decade or so, three people were moved from parttime employment to training, became full time trainers and all three were moved up or over. Two are production managers now.

This while passing over people who had much more experience, arguably much better education (if you consider an MBA and as Masters in Education better than a bachelors degree) and they did it because….wait for it…they focused on not embarrassing the director. If you want to gain ground in the organization, assuming you even have a chance, which 99 % of the people didn’t, don’t or won’t.

“Anyone who has done thousands of QC’s is more than qualified to be a trainer.” Or something to that effect said, Price.

That’s exactly the same as saying, “He cut an pasted thousands of pages from a bunch of other peoples books…if he can do that, he’s certainly qualified to be a writer!”

The fact of the matter is, the last 3 “trainers” were put in the position so they could move into full time positions and be moved to a place where they could most effectively protect, well at least the two who became production managers, the director.

He reported to me in his 80’s with no expectation of retiring, guess he figures he will die in office. Clearly the best choice for himself and the cluster of those he protects with his tenure - but really bad for disaster victims throughout the United States and its territories.

Acting production managers…..

answering calls from his shower

not showing up for weeks at a time…

leaving his duty station exactly at 8 hours on eastern time

trainers who are nothing of the sort.

Production managers that are not nearly as knowledgable or well trained as those they used to supervise.

A chosen few the special 8
